A collection of quotations outlined by Mao to help revolutionaries like the Black Panthers who would carry this text and cite it whenever they had to outline the Communist position on issues。Definitely an interesting read, and understandable why revolutionary Marxists have felt a need for this theory for a long time。

I found this book to be quite a comprehensive insight into Mao's mind。 It covers many basesincluding politics, morals and sociology in general。He makes some valid points, especially when it comes to emotional intelligence and self-criticism。 Although he may not have always practiced what he preached, I can see why China has grown into the superpower that it is today under this leader's guidance。 I found this book to be quite a comprehensive insight into Mao's mind。 It covers many basesincluding politics, morals and sociology in general。He makes some valid points, especially when it comes to emotional intelligence and self-criticism。 Although he may not have always practiced what he preached, I can see why China has grown into the superpower that it is today under this leader's guidance。 。。。more

Quotations from Chairman Mao was a fundamentally good idea for a number of reasons, but one that I haven’t really thought about until now is that somewhat unlike other major communist figures, Mao’s most important political interventions are not really contained in formally drafted polemics or position papers but are scattered among voluminous, relatively short statements that were clearly drafted in the midst of carrying out concrete political tasks。 In other words, a huge portion of what Mao w Quotations from Chairman Mao was a fundamentally good idea for a number of reasons, but one that I haven’t really thought about until now is that somewhat unlike other major communist figures, Mao’s most important political interventions are not really contained in formally drafted polemics or position papers but are scattered among voluminous, relatively short statements that were clearly drafted in the midst of carrying out concrete political tasks。 In other words, a huge portion of what Mao wrote seems to have been deeply connected to specific projects, so instead of lofty speeches and essays you have “Report on an Investigation of the Peasant Movement in Hunan” or “A Talk to the Editorial Staff of the Shansi-Suiyuan Daily。”This is of course not criticism and I think it can really be considered a positive thing。 However, it does mean that for someone looking to learn about “what Mao had to say,” that’s actually kind of difficult because so much of Mao’s writing is tied to specific tasks that had a very definite context that might not be intelligible for readers who weren’t directly involved in those processes。 Plus it is very spread out。 So, the editors who compiled Quotations from Chairman Mao did the hard work of taking all of that political writing and sussing out “what are some general lessons that can be drawn from all of this,” which is also very important。The impression that people get about the Quotations is often that they’re a sort of cult thing, and I think attempts to repeat the Quotations (i。e。 modern “Quotations” books from living communists) have definitely been very culty。 But in the case of Quotations from Chairman Mao I think, despite perhaps lending itself to hero-worship, it serves an incredibly practical purpose in that it condenses a lot of disparate stuff into a coherent and digestible message。I’m thinking about this because I’ve been trying to compile a list of things for beginners to communism to look at。 With Marx or Lenin, you can definitely be like “here are a handful of neat essays and polemics you can read,” but with Mao, it’s not so easy。 Whatever, I’d honestly recommend just reading the Red Book, and if you find any of the sections to be particularly interesting you can look at the specific texts that are cited in the Red Book from there。 。。。more

Perhaps some of the quotation could be very helpful in our real life sake。 But in case with the ideological term, what i could say, this book is the evidence of propaganda effort at its ‘very best language’ to persuade their fellows that i think the basic of their ideology is extremely dogmatic。
